Beautiful Big Sur is a breathtaking visit to California’s Big Sur Coast. Big Sur, California is a lightly populated area of California’s Central “Gold Coast” from Carmel south 76 miles to San Simeon. Big Sur is the longest and most beautiful stretch of undeveloped coastline in the United States. It has been described as the “most beautiful meeting of land and sea in the World”.
Big Sur is bordered to the east by the Santa Lucia Mountains whose mountains rise from the Pacific to over 5,000ft. Approximately 60% of the Big Sur coast is owned by a government or private agency that does not allow any development.
In 2016, the wilderness areas of Big Sur were devastated by the 132,127-acre Soberanes Fire which eventually burned itself out after 60 days.
